What's New in Taskly 1.2

Taskly 1.2 is now available on the App Store. This update adds several features users have been asking for: a visual countdown for maintenance items, the ability to tag tasks to a location, a dedicated Due Today section, and a number of smaller improvements throughout the app.

Here is a full breakdown of everything that changed.

Maintenance Items with Countdown Timers

The biggest addition in 1.2 is a dedicated maintenance item type with a visual countdown bar. Maintenance items are for interval-based jobs: things like replacing HVAC filters, flushing a water heater, or testing smoke detectors. Unlike regular recurring tasks, these are measured in elapsed time, not calendar dates.

Each maintenance item now shows a colored progress bar that drains as the due date approaches:

  • Green bar: Plenty of time left. The item sits in the Upcoming section of the Maintenance tab so it doesn't clutter your active list.
  • Yellow bar: Getting close. The item moves into your active list so you know it needs attention soon.
  • Red bar / Overdue: Past due. The item is flagged immediately so nothing slips through.

When a maintenance item is completed, the countdown resets from today. So if you finish the job two weeks late, the next interval starts from when you actually did it, not when you were supposed to. This is the right behavior for real maintenance work.

You can read more about the difference between tasks and maintenance items in our earlier guide: Tasks vs Maintenance Items: Understanding the Difference.

Task Locations

You can now tag any task to a saved location. Set up locations once in Settings (Home, Garage, Office, or whatever makes sense for your household), then pick one when creating or editing a task.

Once tasks have locations, the Active tab gains a second view mode: By Location. Instead of seeing all urgent tasks in priority order, you can switch to a grouped view that shows everything organized by where it needs to happen. This makes it much easier to knock out everything at one location before moving to the next.

Due Today Section on the Active Tab

The Active tab now has a third urgency tier between Overdue and Active: Due Today. Tasks due before midnight show up in this section with a yellow accent color so they stand out from tasks that have more time.

The breakdown now reads:

  • Overdue (red): Past the due date
  • Due Today (yellow): Due before midnight today
  • Active (green): Started and accepted, not due today

Offline Draft Mode

Task creation now works without an internet connection. If you create a task while offline, it saves as a draft locally and syncs to iCloud as soon as your connection returns. A banner at the top of the screen lets you know when you are offline so there is no guessing.

Overdue Push Notifications

Taskly now sends a push notification when a task you are assigned to becomes overdue. Previously notifications only fired when a task was assigned to you or when someone marked a task complete. This closes the gap for tasks that slip past their due date without any action.

Invite Friends

There is now a built-in way to invite people to Taskly. Open Profile and tap Invite Friends to share a message with the App Store link. The easier it is to bring someone into the app, the more useful Taskly becomes for shared households and teams.

Settings Improvements

The Settings screen was reorganized to be cleaner and easier to navigate. Preferences (appearance, notification options) now live in their own dedicated screen. Completed tasks can also be deleted in bulk from the Done tab, which is useful for clearing out old history.

New App Icon

Taskly has a new app icon with a refreshed brand look. It is cleaner and more recognizable at small sizes on the home screen.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where recurring tasks would not advance to the correct next date after being completed.
  • Fixed overdue notifications not firing for tasks that were already past due when the app launched.
  • Various stability and performance improvements across the task list, notifications, and connections screens.

How to Get the Update
